Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Relax by the water at Long Beach and Bellerive Beach. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and St John the Baptist Chuch. Take a break from Hobart with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, about 30 minutes away. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Mona, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington, appreciate the extensive heritage of Battery Point Sculpture Trail, and let little ones run wild at St. David's Park.

To find where to stay, reviews, maps, and other tourist information, you can read our Hobart trip itinerary website .

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Sydney in May: high temperatures in Hobart hover around 18°C and lows are around 7°C.
