Airlie Beach

Very much a town with an emphasis on the tropical lifestyle, Airlie Beach offers exotic surroundings with palm trees and charming, sandy beaches.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Sun): look for gifts at Beach Book Boutique and then zoom along the surf with a waterskiing or jet-skiing adventure. On your second day here, get some thrills on the water with a speed boat tour.

Sydney to Airlie Beach is an approximately 6-hour combination of flight and bus. You can also do a combination of flight and ferry; or drive. A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Change things up with these side-trips from Cairns: Palm Cove (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Palm Cove Beach). Spend the 25th (Tue) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.

Cape Tribulation

A lush headland that's part of the forested Daintree Region, Cape Tribulation was so named by Lieutenant--later Captain--Cook in 1770, when his ship ran aground in the area.
Spend the 1st (Tue) exploring nature at Daintree National Park. There's lots more to do: delve into the lush surroundings at Daintree Rainforest - Cooper Creek Wilderness, relax in the rural setting at Cape Trib Farm, tour the pleasant surroundings at Cape Tribulation Beach, and enjoy the sand and surf at Myall Beach.

Start off your visit on the 4th (Fri): take in nature's colorful creations at Roma Street Parkland and then let little ones run wild at South Bank Parklands. On the 5th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: look for all kinds of wild species at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and then take some stellar pictures from Mount Coot-tha Lookout.
