The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
Step out of Darwin with an excursion to Litchfield National Park in Batchelor--about 1h 45 min away. Spend the 2nd (Sun) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 9th (Sun) at Darwin Waterfront. And it doesn't end there: stroll through Mindil Beach, make a splash at Wave Lagoon, get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and examine the collection at Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.

Sydney to Darwin is an approximately 8.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Sydney in September, expect Darwin to be a bit warmer, temps between 38°C and 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Katherine.
