Very much a town with an emphasis on the tropical lifestyle, Airlie Beach offers exotic surroundings with palm trees and charming, sandy beaches.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Horseshoe Bay and Whitsunday Great Walk. Visit Grays Bay and Boathaven Beach for some beach relaxation. There's much more to do: get some thrills out on the water with a waterskiing or jet-skiing adventure, kick back and relax at Airlie Beach Lagoon, paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and step off the mainland to explore Whitsunday Islands.

Townsville to Airlie Beach is an approximately 4-hour bus ride. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus.
